Jason T. Dickerson investigated for terroristic threats against elderly neighbor's dog
The 87 year old victim told police she was left in fear for her and her pet's life.
CANTON, GA — A police report obtained by The Georgia Wire reveals that Jason T. Dickerson, now a candidate for State Senate, was investigated for allegedly threatening to kill his elderly neighbor’s dog.
According to an official Canton Police Department report, the incident occurred the night of February 16th on East Main Street in Canton. The 87 year old victim told officers Dickerson confronted her and accused her dog of coming into his yard and relieving itself.
What began as a verbal argument quickly escalated. The woman told police that Dickerson responded with a chilling threat:
“I’ll get a camera and prove it’s your dog, or better yet I’ll just shoot her and lay her in your yard.”
Fearing for her safety and her pet’s life, she reported the incident to authorities. The police classified the matter under Georgia Code 16-11-37: Terroristic Threats or Acts — a felony offense.
The incident comes to light as Dickerson faces an uphill battle in the State Senate special election, and raises questions about his past conduct and fitness for public office.
“It doesn’t sound like someone who should be anywhere near a position of power,” said one Canton resident who was considering voting for Dickerson on Tuesday. “You can’t trust someone who threatens animals, not to mention an elderly woman,” said another.
Early voting for the election ends on Friday, August 22nd. Election Day will take place on August 26th. A likely runoff election will be held on September 23rd.
Neither Dickerson nor his campaign immediately responded to requests for comment.
